How to Cymbal Vivo
Moving your cymbal towards maturity that would otherwise take years can happen in a few weeks. No gimmicks here. Just a device that accumulates vibrational cycling on your cymbal even when its not in use.
Step One: Using a standard 8mm cymbal stand that is positioned vertically, spin the vibratory unit on to the cymbal stand threads. It is recommended to remove felts, sleeves, and washers to prevent contact dampening of the vibratory unit. Only rotate onto the stand 3-4 threads deep. Fully seating it onto the vibratory unit will choke the vibration and drastically reduce the efficiency of your Cymbal Vivo.
Step Two: Place your cymbal on the mounted Cymbal Vivo vibratory unit and apply the thumb wheel with the nut side up with minimal pressure. Do not over-tighten. The thumbwheel that encompasses the nut is designed to minimize surface area contact. Over-tightening can cause counterproductive damping effects.
Step Three: Plug the Cymbal Vivo aviation plug into the control housing and plug in the 5V adapter. Only use the provided 5V adapter. Using incorrect voltage will damage the device and will not be replaced.
Step Four: Slowly adjust the knob on the control housing listening closely for how the cymbal responds. Adjust up and down to find where the cymbal is most responsive. The gentle vibration where the cymbal reacts the most is where you will leave the cymbal to ring out for anywhere from 3-21 days.
Step Five: Check on the cymbal regularly. As changes settle in it may be necessary to gradually adjust the dial to find where the cymbal is currently responding the most as changes have set in.
Additional Notes:
1- Reduce damping to maximize resonance by removing felts and sleeves from your cymbal stand. Though not necessary, removing the rubber feet from the cymbal stand and placing it on a concrete floor such as in a garage or basement allows vibration to travel back through the stand into the cymbal and maximize resonant efficiency.
2- While not nearly as loud as playing on a cymbal, this can be loud enough to be interruptive to daily life. It is recommended to set up Cymbal Vivo in a rehearsal space, closet, garage, or basement where it will not be a disturbance as it resonates for several weeks. Or if it must be set up in your living space you may opt to set it to operate while away from home if others find it disruptive. Just plan on lengthening the total hours of run time accordingly.
3- As previously stated, only use the supplied 5V 1A power supply. Overpowering the Cymbal Vivo by using the wrong power supply will damage the device. The Cymbal Vivo runs within a narrow range of very low voltage. Use of other power sources will damage the device.
4- Good News! Running Cymbal Vivo has a power draw similar to charging a cell phone. Its maximum voltage is a mere 5V 1A. But the most likely used adjustment will have it operating draw around 2V, as most cymbals respond best in the middle third of the dial sweep, which is actually half the draw of a cell phone charger using only a fraction of an amp! That’s close to a AA battery. Thus designed to operate gently on your cymbal and at a negligible rate of power consumption.
5- Cymbal Vivo's vibratory module contains moving components that may experience wear over extended use. To support long-term ownership, replacement modules are available to original owners with proof of purchase at preferred pricing, allowing you to maintain your Cymbal Vivo without replacing the entire system.
